🌟 Happy Feast of St. Nicholas 🌟
Today, our school celebrated St. Nicholas Day with a special blessing of candy canes! These blessed candy canes hold a rich history and symbolism rooted in Christian tradition, and our students will be bringing them home to hang on their Christmas trees and enjoy on Christmas Day.
Did you know? Around 1650, candy canes began as simple white sugar sticks in Europe. By 1670, a choirmaster in Cologne, Germany, shaped them into the familiar cane design, symbolizing a shepherd’s staff—representing Jesus as the Good Shepherd. Over time, the red-and-white stripes were added, symbolizing Christ's purity and sacrifice.
As we embrace this meaningful tradition, let’s remember that the candy cane is more than a festive treat—it’s a reminder of the true reason for the season: the hope, love, and joy brought by Christ’s birth and His promised return.
Wishing everyone a blessed Advent season filled with faith and anticipation! 🌟 #StNicholasDay #BlessedCandyCanes #AdventTraditions #FaithInAction #olmnc
